Race start-Day 1!
Wind 13 Seas 2ft
After wakeup and breakfast, the
boats head to the start line in Buzzard’s Bay to await the start sequencing at
noon.
The weather in Marion has had
afternoon showers the past few days, but Thursday and Friday held off. Winds were light at the start, but are building.
There are three major portions to the
race: Buzzards Bay, Gulf stream, and Bermuda approach. Today we had quiet close-quarters sailing,
given the light winds, with the boats
picking their tactical courses off the start line. Once out of Buzzards Bay, we turn toward
Bermuda, the boats spread out, and we strategize on gulf stream current entry-exit. 615 miles to our next way point.
Happy milestone birthday Sam!
Weather: overcast
Galley: Breakfast burritos/scones/turnovers,
calzones for lunch, and BBQ for dinner.
Cookie of the day: M2B squares
