Greetings Race Fans!
After passing through a cold front early this morning, Mahina Kai discovered a 17 knots of wind from the southwest. We are having a great sail for our final leg to Narragansett Bay. ~30 nautical miles to the entrance bouy. We will probably not make the custom dock before they close for the evening. This means that the crew will likely remain onboard unable to leave the ship till morning when the vessel is cleared my imigrations. There has already been much discussion among the crew about the supply of rum and wine that may be available while docked and waiting for the border patrol officials.
A great wind, a great sun. A perfect New England day of sailing.
The water temp is now 63F a much cooler version than the 87F we experienced a few hundred miles south. Making for a comfortable ride above and below decks aboard Mahina Kai.
The mood of the crew is happy, as we can all relate to our traditional New England Sailing conditions.

ReplyDeleteWe got hit by the cold front you mentioned and were making 11 knots under double reefed main alone for about 15 minutes; it was an invigorating way to end my watch! We must have started motoring before you because we were lucky enough to be the last boat to get cleared in on Wednesday.
